Description

WHAT
︎︎︎A redesign of the cover of the novel “Slaughterhouse-Five” (1969) by Kurt Vonnegut.

︎︎︎I created two versions of the cover:
1. Soft cover
2. Hardcover with a lasercutted dust jacket

WHY
︎︎︎The goal of the project was to make an interactive, layered book cover that is also a reflection on the text itself.

︎︎︎I loved the concept of transitioning in space and the inconsistent narrative timeline; these ideas were also the motivation behind this project.

“It is just an illusion here on Earth that one moment follows another one, like beads on a string, and that once a moment is gone, it is gone forever.”

Kurt Vonnegut
“Slaughterhouse-Five”

HOW
︎︎︎While reading the book I was inspired by the nonlinear narrative of the novel.

︎︎︎ I illustrated that by drawing a walking human figure and distorting the image with the scanner. Then I vectorized the distortion and laser cutted it as the outer dustjacket.

︎︎︎The inside cover design is the distorted and edited gouache illustration of the walking human figure.
